MacTCP Help for Computers Running the
Macintosh Operating System

The MacTCP Control Panel is accessed via the Apple Menu in the upper left of your screen, inside Control Panels.
If you do not have MacTCP, but have TCP/IP instead, click here.

TCP/IP

( 1 ) Select "FreePPP," "MacPPP," or "PPP" from this window (there should be only one item with such a name). This chooses what dialer you will use to connect to the internet.

( 2 ) Click on the button labeled "More..." This will bring up another window for the remaining steps.

( 3 ) In the next window, click in the circle to the right of "Server." This indicates that your computer will obtain an IP Address from your Internet service provider (ISP) every time you log on.

TCP/IP

( 4 ) Click here to select a Class "C" IP address.

( 5 ) Click in the boxes shown, and enter the DNS information provided by your ISP like the example information shown below:

simplyweb.net   example only 207.167.112.8   example only
.  207.167.112.9   example only

( 6 ) Click "OK" to close this window and save changes.

( 7 ) Click on the Special menu and Restart your computer for changes to take effect.

( 8 ) You will also need to configure your internet dialer Control Panel (e.g. ConfigPPP or FreePPP). Select your dialer from the table below, or go to General Macintosh Help for instructions on how to find out what dialer you have.

If you have configured your software and it still doesn't work, visit the TCP/IP troubleshooting page.
